Tracing the origin of things. Native present Australia’s newest design brand.
The time and place to present design process, prototypes and end products that celebrate cultural traditions, good design, proportion and quality.
Native is the result of conversations between Robert Young, a local manufacturer, and designer Dhiren Bhagwandas, that resulted in the creation of a new range of furniture, lighting and objects developed around a human approach to design.
Native objects carry strong narratives that reflect a global perspective - exploring themes including natural phenomena, ecology and cultural identity. All products are made responsibly through closed-loop manufacturing and ethically sourced materials such as FSC timber.
Native traces the origins of things through a launch exhibition showcasing the design process, prototypes and finished product, including a view into the creation of the Native brand identity by Marcus Piper and Christey Johansson of award winning design studio One8One7.
The first collection, designed by Bhagwandas, is imbued with tactility and warmth; and offers a simple yet considered approach to functionality. Fusing craft and high technology, the Native works embrace a return to a more balanced way of living and working, seeking to produce not just products but entire sensorial experiences. Lunches (by invitation) designed around the Native philosophy will be crafted by Paul Mattei of Fresh Fork using local organic ingredients.
Opening Saturday 18 July, invitation only
Supported by Innocent Bystander, designboom, Format and Fresh Fork
